PHH NE Ohio Chapter Renovates Bathroom for Vietnam Veteran Merlin W.
Merlin W. is a USMC Vietnam Combat Veteran. He was also awarded the Purple Heart while serving in Vietnam. He was with the first group of US Marines to enter HUE City in 1968. Some of you will remember this story! if not, you should learn about this operation and the extreme bravery of these Marines!Merlin still has a bullet in his leg from that battle. He lives with PTS and neurological issues as well. He is having more and more mobility issues as he is getting older. He did not have a fully functional bathroom in his home. He also needed the bathtub removed and a walk-in shower installed in its place to help prevent falls.Purple Heart Homes NEO heard about Merlin's situation. Once his application was approved our Chapter made arrangements with Serio Remodeling to completely renovate his bathroom, and address all of the safety issues as well. In the fall of 2024 his bathroom was completely remodeled. We removed the bathtub, replaced it with a walk-in shower, replaced toilet, replaced vanity and sinks, a new floor, new paint, new lighting and fixtures, etc. This Marine can now live safely, and with dignity, in his own home and reduce the risk of a fall. Again, all of this work it done at NO COST to our Veteran, and made possible by your generous donations.
