PHH NE Ohio Chapter Builds New Roof and Gutters for WWII Veteran

Last Updated 1/29/2025Posted in NE Ohio Chapter Projects, Chapter Projects

Meet Peter Avalos. He is standing to the right of the Giving Back sign in the brown jacket. He is a WWII Veteran who served in the occupation army in Japan at the end of the war. When he returned to Lorain OH he married and raised his 11 children in this home. His roof was in need of some serious repairs. His son, also a veteran, heard about Purple Heart Homes and applied for some help for his father. In the spring of 2022 we contacted him, took a look at the condition of the roof, and determined that he was qualified for assistance. Purple Heart Homes contacted our partner Owens Corning, and through their Roof Deployment Program, Absolute Roofing was contacted and agreed to do the work. In November of 2022 Mr. Avalos got his new roof, along with new gutters and downspouts. This was a great way for the Northeast Ohio Chapter to finish 2022.
